What is the Axe Women Pathfinders Program?
Over the past 12 years, the Axe Women Loggers of Maine have been fortunate to follow a path, back and forth across North America, as “ambassadors” for logging sports. We’ve entertained and educated millions while demonstrating our competitive skills in a heritage sport that was traditionally male dominated. Along our path we met many incredible ladies that were cut from the same cloth, but whom had not yet had the opportunity to take up our sport! Recognizing this untapped well of natural talent and tenacity, the Axe Women created the Axe Women Pathfinders Program in 2019!
Axe Women Pathfinders have the same traits as the rest of our team….strong in spirit and mind, adventurous, tenacious, notable in their achievements, and respected role models in their chosen profession. These attributes make them natural choices for ambassadors of one of the country’s true “heritage sports”. While they may be relatively new to the world of logging sports, if they’ve “made the grade” to join the Axe Women as a “Pathfinder”, then they have demonstrated a high level of proficiency, ability and the skills needed to learn and excel at such events. Some threw their first axe at an agricultural fair in the Appalachian Mountains, some learned to logroll at the Missouri River Outdoor Expo, others learned to chop and saw at a forestry show!
Yes, the Axe Women Loggers of Maine team has several members who hold professional world championships, collegiate championships, and world records. Yes, we are proud of this fact…but we are even more proud that our WHOLE team champions ALL of the pioneering women who compete in logging sports! Every one of these great ladies have made time along their personal professional paths to introduce so many to the world of competitive axe throwing, chopping, crosscut sawing, logrolling and more.
A Note: An Axe Women Pathfinder may not have won a logging sports world championship or hold a world record, but please remember: these NEW “pathfinders” were already excellent role models before they were Axe Women, and they demonstrated interest and skill in logging sports...Now we are lucky to have them as excellent role models that are dedicated advocates of promoting women in our sport! Welcome to the Team!
Look for the “Pathfinders” of the Axe Women to be joining us frequently at select shows in the future, and we’ll be adding more team members that embody this “Pathfinder spirit”!
