Axe Women and Maine Operation Game Thief Form Strategic Partnership
January 31, 2024 - The Axe Women are excited to announce a strategic partnership with Maine Operation Game Thief (Maine OGT), a 501c3 non-profit organization that works in cooperation with the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, Maine Warden Service, Department of Marine Resources, Maine Marine Patrol, and Wildlife Crime Stoppers. Maine OGT pays rewards, if requested, to citizens who turn in poachers or to individuals unlawfully introducing non-native fish species to lakes, ponds and streams of Maine.
Maine Operation Game Thief's mission is to make the public aware of the abuses against Maine’s wildlife and natural resources, to apply a mechanism for the public to assist in the capture of these abusers, and to provide assistance to our wildlife enforcement officials whenever possible in protecting these resources.
Another Logrolling First!!
September 16, 2023 - After a year of preparation and practice, Alissa Wetherbee went "Oops!" and then did it again! After becoming the first (and still only) person to have logrolled across the Mississippi River (2019), Alissa said "Yes" to a request from the Nebraska Game & Parks Commission to have the Axe Women help kick-off the 2023 Missouri River Outdoor Expo with an attempt to have Alissa become the first and only person in history to logroll across the longest river in North America, the Great Missouri River!
On that windy morning, as Alissa stepped off the eastern bank (South Dakota side) and into the rain-swollen Big Muddy, the rushing current almost immediately knocked her off the log as it was drawn into a 20-foot deep whirlpool! While in those swirling waters, it was so deep there was no river bottom to kick off from, but Alissa somehow managed to get back onto the spinning log and into a standing position with one swift move, regaining and keeping her balance, to continue making her away across the Mighty Mo! She did go back into the river one more time, this time on purpose, to avoid being skewered by a dead tree sticking up out of the water! But once again, Alissa climbed back on the log, and one hour after launching and after covering approximately 2.5 miles of swift water, she stepped onto the western bank in Ponca, Nebraska and into the history books!
A big "Thank You" to Axe Women members Andrea and Pennsylvania Page for being part of the River Rescue Team, and also huge thanks to the Ponca Fire Department, Dixon County Sheriff's Department, Ponca State Park, Nebraska Game & Parks Law Enforcement, for all providing invaluable river knowledge and assistance, and thank you to the staff at Nebraska Game & Parks Commission and the Missouri National Recreational River Headquarters crew!

Springtime in the Everglades!
The Axe Women spent a busy month in the Sunshine State this past Spring, putting on a private clinic for U.S. Veterans in Tampa, holding an Axe Women Team training camp in the Naples area, and recruiting more Axe Women Pathfinders.
While in Florida, Axe Women founder Alissa Wetherbee became the first person to logroll in the Everglades, then she and Axe Women Pathfinder "Pennsylvania Page" held the first logrolling match in the Big Swamp!
(And yes, there were alligators, and crocodiles, and sharks in these waters!)
